There are many reasons that might make it neessary for the central heating system to be draines, like a new radiator or fix a leaking pipe etc. It may even be a complete new boiler installation. Whatever the cause, the draining process is not as difficult as people think. There are different systems fits in different homes. For the Direct System you should firstly, isolate the main stopcock for the rising-main to cut off the supply to the kitchen taps. Now, open the tap to release the remaining water. London Potterton Boiler Repair plumbers can drain systems. Next, isolate the bathroom taps, by closing the valve on the appropriate cold feed pipe from the cylinder and open all taps on that section. If you can’t find a valve, place a wooden batten across the tank and tie the arm of the float up. This will isolate the supply to the tank, now you can empty it by running all the cold taps in the bathroom. If you can’t get into the loft, isolate the main stopcock, and run the cold taps. London Potterton Boiler Repairs use skilled operatives. To drain hot water taps you need to isolate the immersion heater or boiler, shut the valve on the cold feed pipe to the cylinder and open the hot taps. Though the water flow stops, the cylinder is still full. If there is no valve on the cold feed pipe, tie-up the float valve arm, then turn on the cold taps in the bathroom to empty the storage tank. If you open up the hot taps, the water in the tank will flush all the hot water from the cylinder. When the cold taps run dry, open the hot taps. In an emergency, open hot and cold taps to clear the pipes as quickly as possible. The WC cistern can be emptied by tying up its float valve arm and flushing the WC. To empty the water inlet pipework, either turn off the main stopcock on a direct system or, on an indirect system, close the valve on the cold feed from the storage tank. Alternatively, shut off the supply to the storage tank and empty it through the cold taps. Flush the WC until no more water enters it’s cistern
